The Internet allows communicating all kind of knowledge and feelings.
Using the keyboard, everybody is able to tell people what they want. Words,
feelings and emotions travel through the phone line enabling to communicate
with the whole world.
Therefore, people have to write to express themselves. This written
communication reveals the knowledge of the spelling in different languages,
which is usually quite poor.Web pages, newsgroups and chatzones are swamped
with spelling mistakes, in any language. We should think about this lack
of accuracy in writing.
Immediacy in communication is innovative. That means that once something
is written it can't be looked up (there are some exceptions, of course)
so that spelling mistakes become very common. This leads me to the disappearance
of the proof-reader. In the traditional media (mainly in written press)
the mentioned character was considered very important as his/her work made
the journalistic papers turn into social communication means. Nevertheless
the proof-reader doesn't play his/her role in the Internet because everybody
is able to communicate something. His/her work can only be appreciated
when he/she is him/herself who creates a web page o leads a discussion
group.
Finally, Catalan isn't the only miswritten language in the Net. Internet
allows everybody to express in the language they prefer so that the minority
languages become equal to those considered as more important.
